The Good News theme for the 2009-2010 school year is The Beatitudes.
Jesus’ famous sayings, called the Beatitudes, have inspired and mystified people for centuries. Jesus listed these blessings in his sermon on the mount, found in Matthew 5:1-12. You will learn, as the year progresses, that the blessings Jesus offers are not things to possess. They are, in fact, Christ-like characteristics to strive toward. They show us the Christian way to be. Perhaps that is why we call them Beatitudes!
To reinforce these wonderful blessings, we have highlighted one of the Beatitudes for each month of the school year. The Bible verse for the first week of each month draws special attention to one of these blessings our Lord Jesus offers us.
The Good News Word of the Week (W.O.W) is selected from the weekly Bible verse. This verse can be used as memory work for the week.
Through Daily Exercises, students learn the meaning of this word and how it relates to the Bible story.
Word mastery and story familiarity will stay with children through their lives, helping them to become literate in the language of Scripture and at home with Church life in prayer and worship.
